Mission Sets the Standard

Food safety must be a priority for everyone in the food industry – it’s our firm belief at Mission and it shows in the actions we take. Recent occurrences of food-borne illness have been far too common and all are preventable with the proper procedures and cooperation between the players in the supply chain.

Within the produce industry Mission is a strong advocate for improving food safety initiatives. Our commitment vows to use all our available resources to provide a quality product, free of contaminants, safe and delicious for consumers.

A Very Effective Plan

We take food safety very seriously, and accordingly we have invested the time and resources to make it a reality. We have a full Quality Assurance and Food Safety team that continually monitors every phase of our operation. Our written food safety plan lays out our strategy, procedures and the people responsible for implementation. Most importantly, we have eyes watching at all times – spotting potential problems before they happen.

We use Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) – guidelines put forth by the federal government on employee hygiene, facility sanitation and the prevention of contamination – every day. And it is not just the QA team that participates. Every Mission employee receives training in food safety and adds their own eyes to our vigilance.

Leadership by Action

Mission has taken specific steps to meet, and in many cases exceed, anticipated new standards. We have pioneered the use of hydrocoolers to reduce the temperature of field fruit immediately upon entering our packing facility.

We are unique in using a fruit wash tank that both cleans and disinfects our fruit, eliminating any contaminants that may have come in from the field. We apply a food grade wax that improves shelf life, cosmetics and helps maintain the quality of the fruit.

Our traceability program is tested each year to make sure we are able to track our fruit from the grower to the receiver. In the event of a contamination problem in the marketplace, we have the ability to recall and quickly remove any questionable fruit from our customer’s shelves.

All our food safety initiatives are tested one final time by an independent laboratory. Our facilities undergo annual audits by Primus Labs to ensure we have private, third-party confirmation of our effectiveness in food safety.

Our Pledge To You

Our pledge to produce only the safest and highest quality products led to the development of the Mission Produce Food Safety Plan. With this plan as our map, Mission guarantees our customers of a continuing commitment to provide products that are safe, wholesome and of consistent high quality.
